TYLER CLARKE DISCUSSES THE NEW COMPETITION MODULE AND ITS IMPACT ON NEBRASKA FOOTBALL

EliteForm is proud to introduce its latest addition to the Integrated System: the Competition module.

With Competitions, coaches can pit athletes of similar velocity and power outputs against each other, building on EliteForm’s ability to set velocity and power targets for trackable exercises.

Development of the Competition module was aided by working with the Nebraska Cornhuskers football program. The Huskers have been using the EliteForm Integrated system for over two years and have provided constant feedback on how the Integrated System can be enhanced to help take their athletes to the next level.

One of the Husker coaches who quickly saw the benefit of the Competitions module is assistant strength coach Tyler “Rex” Clarke, who is in his sixth season with the Huskers. Tyler earned his bachelor’s degree in health and sports studies from Iowa in 2005 and his master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan in 2008.

We recently got a chance to sit down with Tyler to talk about how implementing EliteForm into their program has given an extra boost in the outcomes of their athletes.

How would you describe your approach to training?

Tyler Clark
We believe in ground based, multiple joint, and three-dimensional movements. Football is a game of ground based force production, so we tailor our training to improve athletic qualities specific to on field performance and to reduce the chance to injury.

Who are the major influencers on your approach?

TC
James Dobson and Chris Doyle are two strength coaches I’ve had the privilege to work for. Both are great leaders, great minds, and most importantly great people.

How long have you been using the EliteForm system?

TC
We’ve been associated with EliteForm since its inception. It’s been great to mold the system to our needs and work with EF to answer questions and create new ones.

How has your approach evolved with your use of EliteForm?

TC
EliteForm allows us to easily manage training data, both at the rack and post training. Instant and relevant feedback is important for both athletes and coaches alike to train optimally and efficiently.

When did you first begin to consider a specific EliteForm setup for competitions?

TC
The best football players thrive in competitive environments. We see this every day in training, on the practice field, and on game day. Our athletes naturally began competing with the data available at the rack within our training protocols. Adding a competition module to the system seemed like a no brainer.

How did the Competition Module impact the atmosphere in the facility?

TC
Adding the capability to the EliteForm system of both position and team-wide performance comparisons at the rack helped connect the team in terms of rep by rep competition. When you can give athletes feedback from every rack in the room, it certainly takes daily competition to another level.

How did the Competition Module impact players’ measureable performance?

TC
With rack to rack communication of performance numbers available, competition naturally flows throughout the room. Anytime that ingredient gets a boost, athletes performances respond accordingly.

What do you see as the next step in working with EliteForm?

TC
We will continue to use EliteForm to manage training data, assist in evaluation, provide instant feedback, and as a tool to effectively prescribe training. Continually working with the EliteForm crew allows us to modify the system as we evolve as a program. In order to give our athletes the best competitive advantage from strength and conditioning, we must relentlessly pursue daily improvement and progress.
